About veritree
Why are you helping to plant trees?
Because, let’s face it, hugging them just doesn’t cut it anymore. Nature is one of our greatest
allies when it comes to fighting climate change and Mother Nature needs some real love and
attention. Trees are like the superheroes of the plant world - they absorb carbon, prevent
soil erosion, and give all sorts of critters a place to call home. So, yeah, we’re basically joining
forces with the Avengers of the natural world to save the planet. No big deal.
It is estimated that a total investment in nature of up to 8.1 trillion USD by 2050 is required if
the world is to meet its climate change and nature targets. We all need to do our part.
What about the trees we already have?
There are around 3 trillion trees on our planet. Sure, that sounds like a lot, but did you know
that’s only about half as many as there were 12,000 years ago? That’s a lot of trees that have
been cut down over the years. In fact, it’s estimated that we humans chop down around 15
billion trees every year! That’s why it’s important to not only protect our existing forests, but
also restore degraded land and ecosystems by planting the right trees in the right place, and
making sure they stick around
How much carbon does one tree sequester?
That’s kind of like asking how much pizza a person can eat - it really depends on a lot of
different factors. You’ve got your thin crust vs. deep dish, your pepperoni vs. veggie, and
then you also have to take into account other factors like where the pizza is cooked and the
ingredients that went into it. The amount of carbon dioxide sequestered per tree varies by
factors, such as type of tree, environmental influences, the tree’s maturity, lifespan, and more!
For instance, it is estimated that an Acadian tree sequesters 1.1 tons of CO2 during the average
Acadian tree’s lifespan, a Douglas Fir absorbs 1.08 Tons of CO2 in its lifetime, and a Mangrove
tree sequesters 0.31 Tons of CO2 in its lifetime. That said, these numbers are only estimates
and are subject to change as research and monitoring evolves
Who are you working with to plant trees? What is veritree?
We’ve partnered with veritree, a technology platform that connects restoration projects with
sustainably minded companies, and their planting partners, to take action. veritree’s platform
was designed to keep tabs on each project, from seed to grown tree, so we can know and see
the real-time impact of our efforts.
What types of trees are you planting?
Did you know that there are nearly 400,000 plant species known to science? Our partner,
veritree, works with leading tree planting organizations from around the world. They know their
stuff and work directly with communities to ensure the right trees are being planted in the right
regions, at the right times. So, whether it’s an Acadian or a Douglas Fir, or any of the other
species, we are assured they’re the best fit for the local environment.
About veritree
Where are you planting trees?
Our partner, veritree, works with planting organizations across the globe to verify their tree
planting projects in locations like Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Canada, the United States, and
more. Thanks to the veritree platform, these planting organizations track the impact of their
projects from start to finish, so we can be sure that the trees we help to plant are making a real
difference.
What can we do to conserve and enhance biodiversity?
To prevent further biodiversity loss and achieve a healthy planet, we must take collective
action. Actions needed include reduced consumption of natural resources, land and ocean
conservation, and the restoration of ecosystems and habitats.
How do you manage risks such as forest fire and flooding events?
To protect against risks like forest fires and flooding events, our partner, veritree, takes a
number of measures to mitigate risk. One way they do this is by diversifying tree planting
efforts across various regions and tree species. This helps ensure that planting projects are
less vulnerable to natural disasters like wildfires and flooding. By taking a careful and strategic
approach to our reforestation efforts, we’re better able to protect the trees we plant and the
communities they support.
When will the trees be planted?
We’re excited to be working with veritree and their planting partners from around the world
to get trees in the ground! Different tree species thrive in different environments, so planting
windows will vary depending on the location and the species being planted. A typical planting
project usually takes around 12-18 months to complete, and we can’t wait to share the impact
of our planting projects with you as soon as they’re completed and verified by veritree.
What does it cost to plant a tree?
The cost of planting a tree varies due to many factors including, species, soil condition,
location, and climate. We also note that the cost of our trees includes not only the planting
process but also the verification, quantification, and sustainability measures to ensure that our
efforts have a real and lasting impact.
